About SoulBirds:
SoulBirds was born out of a change in perspective.
I sat on my patio— exhausted and overwhelmed, needing a break and a moment to myself. But as I looked up and around at the back of my house, the perpetual to-do list ricocheted in my mind, and dread began to follow. I quickly turned my bench around, defying the stress that was attempting to consume the few moments I had to myself. I looked out over the woods and saw a peace in them. I had forgotten the escape that nature provided me in my childhood, and began to feel that wonder again. And then came the birds. I got lost in their world, watching them go from tree to tree, imagining their perspective.
Watching them quickly became my favorite pastime—I was captivated by their behaviors, calls, characteristics, and interactions. I quickly realized that I wanted to spend my creative energy on capturing their moments and expressing myself through them. In one way or another, each piece in the collection has defined emotion or connected a feeling for me during a moment that I needed an outlet.
*For exhibitions, the original bird feeders, laterns, and other items featured in the photography will be available to hang/display in the gallery amongst the artwork. Would like to provide patio benches in the gallery to emulate vantage points at which the photos were taken and give a sense of my “studio” environment.
